The Introduction arc is the first story arc of the Wind Breaker manga series.

Detailed Outline

  • Haruka Sakura enters the town of Makochi and found himself engaged with a group of thugs twice in one day; the second confrontation involved a much larger version of the first group that he took down earlier on his own. In both instances, Sakura ended up saving or protecting a current local by the name of Kotoha Tachibana who, in the process of either thanking him or treating his injury, initiated conversations that would gradually make the protagonist see himself and others in a different light. During the second confrontation, he was saved by four members of the school that he intends to rise to the top position of and was provided details on how the school has changed over the course of a few years.[1][2]
  • The following morning, Sakura was introduced to a fellow schoolmate by the name of Akihiko Nirei, whose antics did not rub off well on the main character. While not initially seeing Nirei as worthy of being a student of Bofurin, Sakura's short interaction with Kotoha afterwards and seeing how brave the other classmate was in the face of danger later in the day caused him to see Nirei in a slightly higher regard. After being saved, Nirei declared to Sakura that he would help the former reach all the way to the top and started guiding the latter to the school.[3][4]
  • When both Sakura & Nirei reached the doorsteps to the school, Nirei read the posted class rosters and was excited to see that not only were they in the same class but that a number of well-known first-years were also there as well. When he saw the name of someone infamous in the same class as them, Nirei freaked out and pleaded with Sakura to get along with the others which the latter did not take to kindly to. Sakura would later be introduced by fellow classmate Hayato Suo to the rest of the class as the one involved in the large-scale confrontation from the previous day which got most of the class interested as they approached him. When Sakura admitted the real reason that he's actually attending the school, fellow classmate Kyotaro Sugishita entered the classroom physically confronted him. It was stated by Suo that Sugishita does not take kindly at all to those aiming to become the top of the school.[5][4]
  • The confrontation between Sakura and Sugishita was interrupted by a speech provided by school rep Hajime Umemiya over the loudspeakers as he welcomes all the students and reminds them not only to enjoy their youth while they can but also about the school's main goal of protecting the nearby town and everyone in it. Sakura was then taken aback by his classmates' enthusiastic response to the speech despite how it was conveyed. By Suo's guidance, both Sakura and Sugishita reluctantly made peace with one another. Sakura was then further taken aback by the warm reception by the other classmates, as he started to recall similar types of reception by everyone else in the town earlier. His train of though was interrupted by a call for every student to head outside that very moment.[6][7]
